Job Summary

Assist experienced pipefitters in laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and production and processing systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Select and prepare materials and equipment according to job specifications.
  • Inspect work sites to identify potential obstructions.
  • Plan and sequence installation to avoid conflicts and ensure efficient workflow.
  • Cut, thread, and bend pipes using various tools and equipment.
  • Assemble and install pipes and fittings, using threaded, caulked, soldered, or cemented joints.
  • Secure pipes to structures using brackets, clamps, and hangers.
  • Test piping systems for leaks and perform minor maintenance tasks.
  • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials and workpieces during installation.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks on tools and equipment.

  • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
  • Plan work and select proper tools.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
  • Work at heights without fear.
  • Compare and see differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.

Qualifications

May require a high school diploma or equivalent with 0-2 years of experience in the field or a related area. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely, safe, and efficient manner. Typically reports to a Foreman or other direct supervisor.

Physical Requirements

  • Strength: Standing 60%, Walking 20%, Sitting 20%
  • Lifting 50 lb.
  • Carrying 50 lb.
  • Pulling 70 ft-lb.
