Position Overview

Novelis is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join its team in Davenport, Iowa. This role will be responsible for managing systems engineering in the areas of automation and computer systems to contribute to the achievement of the Manufacturing Unit's safety, quality, and cost objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of existing automated systems to ensure optimal performance and efficiency
  • Application of mature engineering knowledge in planning and conducting projects, including coordination of responsible assignments
  • Application of state-of-the-art technology and techniques to resolve complex engineering problems
  • Performs special study programs involving technical data of a complex nature
  • Supports manufacturing by working closely with the Operations, Engineering, and Process Groups
  • Directs vendors and consultants to ensure timely and effective project delivery
  • Involvement in equipment, operator, and maintenance training programs to enhance skills and knowledge
  • Promotes external contacts with other operations research groups as necessary
  • Stays current with the ever-changing technology, balancing it with the needs of the operations to bring forth improvements in process control, process automation, and process management systems and methods

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer, Software Engineering, or related discipline
  • Experience working in an IT environment organization
  • Strong communication skills required
  • Software skills in software analysis, design, methodology, and architecture
  • Programming experience in software language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of manufacturing experience preferred
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networks
  • Experience in HMI/SCADA systems, with WonderWare HMI systems a plus
  • Experience with SQL programming and relational databases
  • Experience in building client/server applications
  • Experience in multi-threaded applications development
  • Experience in Windows operating system management and configuration as it pertains to a networked manufacturing environment
  • Experience in supporting the process group and the maintenance group in reliability efforts
