Job Title: Automation Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to join our team at PSI Molded Plastics. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechatronics engineering and experience in designing, developing, and improving automated systems and mechatronic devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and enhance electro-mechanical systems and mechatronic devices.
  • Create and support automated systems, including developing software to control them.
  • Enhance or modify existing PLC and HMI programs.
  • Conduct research, document findings, and present reports in team meetings.
  • Develop detailed design documents for mechanical parts and final products.
  • Conduct feasibility studies on new mechatronic equipment, including cost and performance analysis.
  • Maintain detailed technical project files and documentation.
  • Identify and select appropriate materials for mechatronic system designs.
  • Identify areas for improvement in the production line or finished products and provide recommendations.
  • Upgrade and enhance existing device designs by incorporating mechatronic elements.
  • Implement and test innovative design solutions.
  • Analyze problems or client briefs and develop practical solutions.
  • Select the required tools and materials for the manufacturing process.
  • Create mechanical models and tolerance analyses to simulate mechatronic design concepts.
  • Research and apply sensors, communication technologies, or control devices for motion control, position sensing, pressure sensing, or electronic communication.
  • Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and training junior Engineers or Apprentices.
  • Provide consultation and training on automation topics and automated control systems.
  • Attend workshops, training sessions, and conferences to stay current on advancements in the field.
  • Oversee contractors to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • BSc in Mechatronics Engineering or a related field.
  • Additional apprenticeships or relevant courses are advantageous.
  • Experience & Skills:
  • Basic understanding of PLC and HMI controls, preferably Allen Bradley.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Familiarity with robotics controllers and motion profiles, especially Fanuc Robotics.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical components and hydraulic circuits.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and experience in mechanical design.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Self-starter with a passion for engineering and innovation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
