The Production Craftsman plays a pivotal role in the fabrication of Structural CLT panels at Sterling Site Access Solutions. This position collaborates closely with Leadership and Teammates to master the machining methods, techniques, and quality standards associated with the carpentry phase of the panel manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare CLT panels (pre-machining set-up) to meet drawing dimensions, specifications, and quality standards for machining tolerances.
- Develop expertise in the use of hand power tools, including circular saws, beam chain saws, and notch cutters, for daily operation.
- Read, understand, and interpret shop drawings to ensure accurate panel fabrication.
- Conduct quality checks on set-up and layout (pre-cut quality check) to ensure compliance with standards.
- Perform self-checks, including cut dimensional and cut quality/appearance checks, to ensure panel accuracy.
- Assist Teammates in maintaining high-quality workmanship.
- Verify panel cut dimensions and workmanship of Teammates.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to 5S visual factory standards and end-of-day clean-up and tool placements.
- Support the area leader and Teammates as needed, including rotation to other machining and finishing stations to ensure seamless operation.
Requirements:
- Trade School certification (a plus)
- Journeyman Carpenter (a plus)
- Strong woodworking and mechanical aptitude.
- Experience operating power tools.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Strong understanding of dimensional tolerances and ability to convert from decimals to fractions.
- Proficiency with tape measure and digital calipers.
