Job Summary

As a Surgical Assistant at CHRISTUS Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in the operating room. Under the direction of the surgeon, you will assist in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions to ensure optimal results for the patient.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgeon in preoperative, intraoperative, and post-operative procedures, adhering to hospital policy and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Facilitate the safe positioning of patients according to the surgeon's preference and anatomical and physiological limits.
  • Perform specific tasks according to individual surgeon preference, utilizing appropriate techniques, including incision and layered closure of surgical sites, providing exposure, achieving hemostasis, and applying appropriate energy sources.
  • Apply dressing material specific to the procedure, assess skin integrity, and assist in transfer of the patient.
  • Perform additional duties as delegated by the surgeon in cooperation with state and local policy.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical First Assist Program, State Board accredited Vocational School of Nursing, or Graduate of School of Surgical technology required.
  • 2 years of Surgical Tech experience preferred.
  • BLS required.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant required.
  • ACLS preferred.
Work Schedule and Type

Varies, Per Diem As Needed.
