We are currently seeking a Full-Time Mosquito Control Specialist in the Metairie, LA area.
Compensation: This position offers a competitive hourly wage of $12.00.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular inspections of designated areas to identify potential mosquito breeding sites and the presence of larvae through visual assessments and sampling techniques.
- Evaluate each inspection location and apply suitable control methods, including: no action, source reduction, biological management, public education, and chemical treatments (including the application of larvicides and adulticides at specified rates).
- Install and retrieve monitoring equipment to assess mosquito populations.
- Maintain accurate records of all findings and control measures on designated log sheets and GPS devices, and input data into VDCI's database as required.
- Familiarize yourself with all relevant chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), ensuring all chemicals are handled and applied according to specifications.
- Adhere to proper safety protocols and spill response procedures at all times, utilizing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary.
- Engage respectfully and knowledgeably with residents during service inspections, routine treatments, and public relations activities.
- Understand and follow safe operational procedures for all equipment used.
- Accurately mix pesticides and fill application equipment as needed, following all safety precautions for product application.
- Adapt promptly to changes and perform other essential tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Flexibility in working hours, including weekdays and weekends as necessary.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Potential requirement to obtain state pesticide applicator licensing (training provided).
- Ability to lift and handle items such as chemical containers and application equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work primarily outdoors, with potential exposure to various environmental conditions and substances.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and a clean motor vehicle record.
