Position Summary:

The Senior IT Engineer will collaborate with senior management and a dedicated team of engineers focused on addressing some of the most challenging issues faced by our clients. Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and manage Linux and Windows-based computing systems to facilitate virtualized testing of naval tactical systems.
  • Drive the development of solutions that align with IDT's mission to enhance capabilities for the warfighter through virtualization.
  • Engage with technical teams across various organizations to foster collaboration.
  • Work closely with program leadership to establish high-level requirements that fulfill client needs.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and technical roadmap development.
  • Lead efforts in identifying topics and developing proposals for technology advancement contracts.
  • Conduct requirements analysis, translating business needs into IT specifications while considering cost and schedule constraints.
  • Perform trade studies and risk assessments on network and computing architectures.
  • Identify applications for emerging technologies, including evaluations of cloud operations platforms.
  • Define verification and validation plans for solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure Cyber accreditation through the RMF process.
  • Oversee the provisioning of virtual servers and desktops according to specifications.
  • Lead testing, evaluation, and deployment initiatives, including planning and implementing system upgrades and changes.
  • Facilitate structured administrative and operational improvements.
  • Manage the lifecycle of hypervisors and automation software, ensuring optimal performance of virtual systems.
  • Conduct capacity planning and performance monitoring to maintain stability in virtualization environments.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related engineering field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in a relevant technology domain.

Essential Skills:
  • Proven ability to lead small teams in developing IT architectures and systems.
  • Experience with server and desktop virtualization technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of Operating System configuration and administration (Microsoft Windows, Linux).
  • Familiarity with virtualization infrastructure tools such as VMware.
  • Networking expertise, including TCP/IP, DNS, and routing.
  • Strong programming skills in C, Bash, and Shell.
  • Experience with container technologies like Docker.
  • Ability to adapt to an agile work environment and manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying technical concepts to clients.
  • Capability to document technical designs and implementations effectively.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.

Preferred Skills:
  • Expertise in enterprise system administration for at least one operating system.
  • Experience with public cloud environments such as AWS or Microsoft Azure.
  • Proficiency in automation tools and scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with networking protocols.
  • Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Java or C++.
  • VMware certifications are a plus.
  • Experience in proposal development.
