Role Responsibilities:
The Healthcare Support Specialist will assist healthcare providers (Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner) in the examination and treatment of patients by performing essential duties, including:
- Welcoming patients and preparing them for their healthcare visit by guiding them to the examination room, gathering medical history, and confirming patient information.
- Documenting a complete and accurate set of vital signs.
- Timely and accurately populating all sections of the electronic medical record, including allergies, medications, vaccines, social history, and quality metrics.
- Assisting providers during examinations and treatments, performing point-of-care tests as per skill level, certifications, and state regulations.
- Maintaining inventory in storage areas and examination rooms.
- Disinfecting and cleaning treatment rooms after patient examinations, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to established standards and legal regulations.
- Conducting business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, cooperative, and respectful towards all patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Managing pre-visit planning according to standard operating procedures.
- Maintaining logs and conducting required checks (e.g., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen).
- Checking and addressing voicemails and electronic messages throughout the workday.
- Providing backup support for front office tasks as needed, including patient check-in and check-out, appointment scheduling, and phone answering.
- Maintaining professional relationships with vendors supporting the practice.
- Adhering to HIPAA guidelines for all internal and external systems.
- Communicating effectively with awareness of surroundings and audience.
- Participating in required training and meetings.
Success Factors:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to complete individual tasks while contributing to the overall success of the clinic. They should possess strong interpersonal skills, empathy, active listening abilities, and the capability to maintain accurate medical records.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED is required. Candidates must be graduates of an accredited healthcare program (e.g., Medical Assistant, CNA, LPN, EMT) or possess equivalent work experience. Maintaining certifications per state guidelines is essential, and being nationally recognized as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is strongly preferred. Strong computer skills are required, with EMR experience being advantageous. A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in Family or Pediatrics is preferred.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively. The position may require occasional walking, sitting, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $20 - $25 per hour, reflecting the typical range for candidates hired. Actual salary may vary based on specific skills, years of experience, and comparisons to other employees in similar roles.
