Maintenance Technician Level I

Job Summary:
Charleston Southern University is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician Level I to join our facilities team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of our campus facilities, providing a safe and functional environment for our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, cleaning, and lubrication of equipment and machinery.
- Perform minor repairs and adjustments to building systems, fixtures, and equipment under the guidance of more experienced technicians.
- Assist with the installation and setup of new equipment, fixtures, and furnishings as needed.
- Conduct basic troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to identify and report issues to supervisors.
- Participate in training programs and on-the-job learning opportunities to develop technical skills and knowledge of maintenance practices.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas and storage areas for tools and equipment.
- Assist with maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and inventory levels.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to support maintenance projects and campus operations.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in maintenance, building trades, or a related field is a plus.
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, with a willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to performing tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and take direction from supervisors and more experienced technicians.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as respond to emergencies as needed.
Working Conditions:
Work may be in hot, cold, dusty, rainy, windy, and noisy conditions and in other inclement weather. Work may require lifting as much as 75 pounds. Working requires frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in maintenance, building trades, or a related field is a plus.
Experience:
Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, with a willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
Essential Job Functions:
Regular, on-time attendance is one essential job function of this position.
Work may be in hot, cold, dusty, rainy, windy, and noisy conditions and in other inclement weather. Work may require lifting as much as 75 pounds. Working requires frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
