Overview
This position entails overseeing, coordinating, and managing technical and administrative tasks related to environmental site remediation under the guidance of the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and evaluate team performance; uphold guidelines and organizational policies; handle grievances; and recommend employment actions.
- Create comprehensive site management strategies, outlining objectives, goals, and alternative approaches.
- Assess environmental site conditions through thorough investigations; interpret data and modify project plans accordingly.
- Draft contracts, proposals, and bids for remediation services; ensure the technical integrity of remediation initiatives.
- Oversee the activities of consultants and contractors during the remediation process.
- Engage in community outreach and manage media relations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Prepare budget forecasts for remediation projects.
- Compile necessary reports for regulatory agencies.
- Execute other assigned tasks as required.
Work Environment
Standard office setting; may involve proximity to construction sites and hazardous materials.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth understanding of chemical factors affecting environmental sites and soil/water sampling methodologies.
- Advanced expertise in remediation treatment technologies.
- Familiarity with contracting regulations and laws pertinent to remediation.
- Awareness of recent advancements in environmental site remediation practices.
- Capability to complete Hazardous Worker Training, and proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software.
- Effective coordination and supervision skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a talent for producing detailed reports.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Mandatory Qualifications
Must possess a Registered Professional Engineer license in Illinois.
Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
A bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering, coupled with eight years of relevant post-degree engineering experience. This includes a minimum of four years in environmental remediation, three years in a supervisory capacity, and one year in an administrative role.
Substitution Policy
Full-time graduate studies in engineering may replace non-supervisory or administrative experience.
Promotional Criteria
- Two years of service as a Site Remediation Specialist within the organization.
- Holding civil service status in the same position.
