Position Summary:
The Physician Assistant will deliver advanced medical care to patients facing complex acute, critical, and chronic health issues in a clinical or hospital environment. This role operates under the supervision of a physician within specialized areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform complex patient care procedures typically executed by a physician, without crossing into the practice of medicine.
- Conduct independent and supervised patient rounds.
- Evaluate and assess patients, providing necessary treatments and monitoring medication orders.
- Coordinate and implement comprehensive patient care plans.
- Assist in gathering patient histories and screening for co-morbidities.
- Conduct physical examinations and provide episodic care under physician supervision.
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Monitor patient treatment programs and relay critical information to attending physicians.
- Facilitate patient education on medical processes, medications, and health promotion.
- Support physicians in making therapeutic decisions.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
- Prepare and manage medical supplies and equipment.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations.
- Adhere to the scope of practice defined by licensure and certification.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess:
- Current Texas Licensure as a Physician Assistant
- Certification from the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or relevant specialty certification
- Proficiency in using medical and surgical instruments
Education:
A Master's degree in Physician Assistant studies is required. A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience may be considered.
Experience:
No prior experience is necessary; however, experience in a clinical focus area is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently to move objects.
Security Considerations:
This position may involve responsibilities that are security sensitive, in accordance with Texas Education Code § 51.
