Job Title: Research Faculty - Poultry Food Safety
Position Summary: The College of Agriculture at Auburn University is inviting applications for two non-tenure track positions of Research Faculty - Poultry Food Safety. These full-time, twelve-month research roles are renewable based on performance and funding availability. The positions come with benefits, including health insurance.
Key Responsibilities: The selected candidates will be tasked with establishing an independent research agenda focused on poultry food safety, specifically targeting the following objectives:
- Investigating the microbiome present in poultry processing facilities to determine how bacterial populations influence the microbial load on processed poultry products. Special attention will be given to the relationship between Salmonella and Campylobacter within the processing environment and their impact on meat contamination.
- Assessing the effectiveness of various antimicrobials in reducing Salmonella and Campylobacter levels on broiler carcasses during processing stages, including reception, scalding, defeathering, evisceration, chilling, and deboning.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in poultry science, animal science, or a closely related field by the time of employment. A demonstrated background in post-harvest food safety and proficiency in microbiological and molecular biology techniques is essential. Ideal candidates will showcase a proven ability to conduct research collaboratively across disciplines and possess strong communication and organizational skills. Candidates must also meet eligibility requirements for employment in the United States.
Desired Qualifications: A record of securing external funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and mentoring students in research is highly desirable.
