Job Summary:

The Drilling Specialist will be responsible for creating boreholes and conducting soil and rock sampling to provide critical information for construction projects. This role requires a high level of expertise in drilling operations and geotechnical engineering principles.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Drilling Operations: Operate drilling equipment to create boreholes for various construction purposes, including soil and rock sampling.
  • Subsurface Investigations: Conduct subsurface investigations to gather data for construction planning and design, including extracting soil and rock samples using appropriate drilling techniques.
  • Sample Analysis: Assist in laboratory testing of samples to determine soil composition and characteristics.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with geologists, engineers, and other construction team members to provide accurate subsurface information.
  • Safety Protocols: Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe working environment during drilling operations.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and inspections on drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, including depth, soil types encountered, and any unexpected conditions.
Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Drilling Expertise: Proficient in the operation of drilling equipment and various drilling techniques.
  • Geotechnical Knowledge: Knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Education & Experience:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification: Certification or training in drilling operations is required.
  • Experience: At least one year of related experience is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Physical Demands: Prolonged periods working with large and possibly noisy equipment.
  • Visual and Auditory Abilities: Must have excellent depth perception, hearing, and manual dexterity to operate all machines safely.
  • Lifting Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
