Responsibilities

Develop network architecture solutions that align with the overall University strategic direction, working closely with technical support teams.

Provide technical direction and architecture to implement and manage highly advanced and complex enterprise networks for NWRDC and its customers.

Manage the Tallahassee Fiber Loop, Tallahassee's connection point to the Florida Lambda Rail, and coordinate the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of various network infrastructure products.

Design integrated network solutions, including routers, VPNs, IPS/IDS, protocol recommendations, network topologies, and related systems.

Act as the custodian of the network architecture process, guiding project and program managers to ensure the scope and direction of network solutions.

Formulate and define system specifications and objectives through analysis of networking trends and NWRDC and customer needs.

Determine and evaluate potential solutions, develop system specifications and requirements, design and program to meet the requirements, and test and validate solutions.

Ensure quality control through ongoing testing and feedback from the NWRDC customer community, following best practices for change management and security.

Design, install, troubleshoot, and maintain various router, switch, firewall, VPN, and load balancing systems at NWRDC, including IPS/IDS, protocol recommendations, network technologies, and related systems.

Analyze and evaluate networks, developing and recommending solutions to complex network problems.

Assume responsibility for the design, planning, and implementation of LAN/WAN infrastructures.

Assist in the revision and development of policy, procedure, and standards to ensure operations and systems remain up-to-date and relevant in a dynamic networking environment.

Work with technical support members to develop network architecture solutions aligned with the overall strategic direction of NWRDC.

Assess NWRDC customer networking trends and needs, providing network connectivity support both internally and for NWRDC customers.

Provide guidance and assistance to all NWRDC staff members of both a technical and planning perspective.

Participate in approved professional development opportunities per NWRDC's policy, maintaining and advancing skills, knowledge, and competencies.

Participate in an after-hours support and/or team on-call rotation in support of a 24/7 data center.

NWRDC provides support for a wide range of state and local government, as well as K20 organizations across the State of Florida, requiring 24/7 services, even during times of crisis or emergency.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six years of experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and ten years of experience.

(Note: or a combination of appropriate post-high school education and experience equal to ten years.)

Preferred Qualifications

Networking OEM Certifications: Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper, etc.

Helpful Information

Network Engineer/Architect with data center or cloud design and/or MSP experience.

A typical day in this position may involve firewall modifications, permit/deny/log analysis, router/switch troubleshooting, packet tracing, routing changes, environment/VRF/enclave design, project guidance, quote formulation (LOM), etc.

In the first 60-90 days, you can expect onboarding with FSU ITS/HR/NWRDC, training on the environment/customers/mission, and familiarization with duties.
