Role Overview: The Specimen Accessioner is tasked with the accessioning of specimens, sorting samples, and entering data in a dynamic, high-volume environment while adhering to established protocols.

Shift Details: This position requires availability from Monday to Friday, 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM, with a mandatory rotation on Saturdays. Additional hours may be necessary based on operational needs.

Compensation: The hourly wage for this role is $20, with an additional differential for third shift work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and introduce biological specimens to the laboratory for accurate processing.
  • Open specimens and transfer them into secondary containers for analysis.
  • Ensure patient demographic information aligns with the test requisition forms.
  • Perform data entry of patient information into the tracking system.
  • Meet production metrics and quality standards to guarantee timely results.
  • Unpack and direct specimens to designated staging areas.
  • Package and dispatch specimens to appropriate testing facilities as required.
  • Properly prepare and store excess specimen samples.
  • Address and document any issues with specimens.
  • Manage and dispose of medical and chemical waste safely.
  • Adhere to environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Operate automated instruments under supervision when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • No prior experience is necessary, though previous medical or production experience is advantageous.
  • Proficient in computer skills and typing.
  • Must successfully complete a standardized color vision test.
  • Comfortable handling human biological specimens, including blood and tissue samples.
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs and work in protective gear for extended periods.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination to accurately identify specimens.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • High attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
