About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Trauma Data Specialist to join our team at the Detroit Medical Center. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional to contribute to the improvement of patient care and outcomes.

As a Medical Trauma Data Specialist, you will play a critical role in identifying and abstracting trauma registry data cases by referencing primary and secondary sources of information. You will enter patient data into the trauma registry according to established state and national protocols and ensure timely completion of each identified patient record as requested by the TPM.

The ideal candidate will have experience with trauma database management, complex data structures, and proficiency in computer software products such as MS Office and Excel. Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively present information to groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public are essential for this role.

Responsibilities
  • IDentify and abstract trauma registry data cases from primary and secondary sources of information.
  • Enter patient data into the trauma registry according to established state and national protocols.
  • Ensure timely completion of each identified patient record as requested by the TPM.
  • Network with other Trauma Registrars and attend Registrar seminars/classes and additional educational classes or meetings requested by the TPM/TMD.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Public Health, or related field.
  • Two years work experience in ICD9/10 CM coding and trauma AIS/ISS coding/scoring coding or equivalent.
  • Trauma Registrar Course (ATS American Trauma Society basic/ or advanced) certification.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Excel.
