Student Support Counselor

Position Title: School Counselor
Location: Winslow, AZ
Role Summary: The School Counselor is tasked with delivering essential counseling services to students, engaging in consultations with educational staff, and participating in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings for students with special educational needs who exhibit behavioral challenges. This position requires the maintenance of comprehensive service logs for each student and the provision of progress reports on a quarterly basis. The counselor will collaborate closely with the Special Education Department to review IEPs, coordinate scheduling, and ensure adherence to established procedural guidelines. Counseling referrals will be accepted from parents or school personnel, with all services conducted in person on the school premises, typically lasting between 30 to 45 minutes, and may include one-on-one, small group, full-class, or emergency intervention formats.
Core Responsibilities:
- Individual and Group Counseling: Facilitate counseling sessions for students, addressing a variety of emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges.
- Collaborative Consultation: Work in partnership with school staff, educators, and parents to devise strategies that support students' emotional and social health.
- IEP Engagement: Actively participate in IEP meetings for students with special education needs who are referred due to behavioral issues.
- Service Documentation: Keep detailed records of services provided to each student, including session content, progress, and outcomes.
- Progress Monitoring: Generate quarterly reports summarizing the achievements and challenges of each student receiving counseling services.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Collaborate with the Special Education department to review IEPs, manage scheduling, and ensure compliance with procedural standards.
- Referral Processing: Manage and assess counseling referrals from parents or school staff, determining the urgency and suitability of interventions.
- In-Person Counseling: Provide all counseling services on the school campus, following safety and health protocols.
- Session Flexibility: Conduct various types of counseling sessions, including individual, small group, full-class, or emergency interventions as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Counseling, School Counseling, or a related discipline.
- State licensure or certification as a School Counselor.
- Experience in delivering counseling services to students, ideally within an educational environment.
- Strong knowledge of IEP processes and regulations pertaining to special education.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards.
- Ability to adapt to the diverse needs of students.
- Familiarity with various counseling techniques and intervention strategies.
