Job Summary

Georgia Military College is seeking a part-time Public Safety Officer to join our team. As a Public Safety Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining the security and safety of our campus, ensuring the well-being of our students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol and Surveillance: Conduct regular patrols of the campus to detect and deter criminal activity, maintain the security of facilities, and escort unauthorized individuals from the campus grounds.
  • Traffic Control: Patrol the campus to control the flow of traffic and ensure that vehicles are parked in authorized areas.
  • Physical Security: Check the physical security of campus facilities to prevent theft and vandalism.
  • Event Security: Provide security for all athletic, social, and political functions occurring on campus, including providing traffic control, crowd control, and property protection services.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Complete all required reports and forms, including accident and incident reports.
  • Log Maintenance: Maintain a daily log of entries of activities.
  • Enforcement: Enforce College Rules and Regulations, including parking regulations and issuing citations.
  • Hazard Reporting: Report safety and security hazards to supervisors.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Age: Must be 21 years of age.
  • Driver's License: Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and excellent skills dealing with the general public.
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge or experience with computers and/or job-related software programs.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations commonly associated with completion of high school level or equivalent.
  • Laws and Regulations: Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, campus regulations, and college policies and procedures.
  • Radio Communication: Knowledge of radio communication codes.
  • GCIC Operations: Knowledge of GCIC operations.
  • Campus Knowledge: Knowledge of the physical layout of the campus and surrounding area.
  • Emergency Response: Skill in responding to emergency situations, administering first aid, and CPR.
  • Communication: Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Vehicle Operation: Skill in operating a patrol vehicle and various emergency and communications equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Preferred attainment of an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Certification: Preferred certification as a peace officer pursuant to the rules of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.
