Surgical Procedure Scheduler Role:

  • Schedule surgical procedures at local hospitals, ensuring seamless coordination with medical staff.
  • Coordinate pre-admission testing, guaranteeing adequate preparation for surgeries by scheduling necessary equipment, time, and preoperative orders.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and medical support staff, facilitating effective communication.
  • Obtain authorization for hospital admission from patients' insurance carriers.
  • Coordinate surgical schedules with providers and first assistants, organizing information for accurate billing, including operative, pathology, and CPT code sheets.
  • Process FMLA and short-term disability paperwork for surgery patients.
  • Provide return-to-work or extension notes.
  • Maintain doctors' calendars for meetings, both for the practice and hospital.
  • Respond to incoming calls, assess callers' needs, and direct them to appropriate personnel, ensuring accurate and timely communication.
  • May be responsible for scheduling post-operative follow-up appointments with physicians.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a medical office setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding is preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of the profession and industry.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel between sites as needed.
