Principal Product Designer, Design Systems Lead

The RoleWe are seeking a Principal Product Designer to lead the evolution of our design systems and shape the future of Carta's digital experiences. As a key member of our Ink Team, you will play a pivotal role in driving design excellence, strategy, and collaboration across R&D to elevate our product offerings.
Responsibilities- Help lead and execute the design systems strategy, evolving and executing the vision and craft of Carta's design system (Ink) to support the delivery of high-quality products and empower teams across the organization.
- Drive visual and product design excellence, advocating for the nerdiness of visual design craft while aligning it with business goals, promoting consistent, best-in-class design solutions across all product areas.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product management, and designers to ensure the design system integrates seamlessly into our product development process.
- Deliver impactful solutions, working hands-on to design and deliver detailed, scalable components and patterns, ensuring quality through collaboration with engineering to bring robust solutions to life.
- Shape user experiences, creating and refining design flows, prototypes, and interactions that enhance usability and consistency across products, leveraging both qualitative and quantitative insights to guide design decisions.
- Influence design culture, mentoring other designers and elevating the UI/UX design culture within the organization, inspiring teams with our vision for the future of Carta's Design System.
- Champion system adoption, aligning key stakeholders on the value of design systems, driving the adoption of tools and processes, and measuring the impact of the system on product quality and efficiency.
We are looking for a systems thinker with a passion for driving design excellence, who is adept at translating complex challenges into simple, scalable solutions. You should possess a natural curiosity for pushing the boundaries of design systems and have a strong portfolio of case studies demonstrating a deep understanding of design systems and successful track record of execution across multiple products and platforms.
Our ideal candidate has 10+ years of product design experience, with at least 5 years focused on design systems, and is technically proficient in building and scaling systems across platforms, from Figma to code. They should also be familiar with the latest developments in design systems and tools, such as Figma, Storybook, and GitHub.
What We OfferWe offer a market-competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles, exceptional benefits, and commissions plans for applicable roles. Our minimum cash compensation range for this role is $197,000 - $247,000 in Seattle, WA, and $210,000 - $260,000 in San Francisco, CA, Santa Clara, CA, and New York, NY.
