Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct daily operations on a clinical unit.
  • Supervise staff and facilitate communication with physicians and internal administrators to provide optimal patient and family-centered care.
  • Lead efforts to strengthen organizational systems that support the mission, vision, and values of the department.
  • Develop and implement creative solutions to complex problems, negotiate conflicts, and collaborate with others.
  • Role model expert communication skills, demonstrate foresight, and clinically sound risk-taking.
  • Recognized as an expert clinician and leader within their area of specialty.
  • Complete employee conference, risk management, and unit management reports within specified time frames.
  • Identify and evaluate the effectiveness of operational forms.
  • Provide and coordinate resources needed within the unit to provide optimal patient outcomes.
  • Role model time management skills and ensure compliance with stated policies and procedures.
  • Remain informed of innovative clinical trends through benchmarking and evidence-based practice.
  • Function as a charge nurse and mentor other Registered Nurses.
  • Evaluate the use of resources and cost containment activities.
  • Lead and coordinate team behavior, foster leadership skills in others, and exhibit a desire to hear and understand another's point of view.
  • Take a leadership role in building and maintaining an environment that fosters open and candid communication.
  • Serve as an arbitrator in resolution of conflicts between nursing staff.
  • Coordinate unit staffing to meet the needs of the department and identify one managerial problem to initiate a test of change.
  • Participate in preparation of regulatory agency reviews and assist in administrative activities such as budget planning and cost containment.
  • Provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff concerning policies, scheduling, assignments, organizational skills, and daily operations.
  • Evaluate the impact of policies on daily operations and support administrative decisions.
  • Challenges and shapes systems on the unit and hospital-wide to achieve best possible outcomes.
  • Aware of and supports units and colleagues' needs through supportive and non-judgmental behaviors.
  • Implement innovative approaches to meet the needs of patients and families.
  • Identify, recognize, and respond to the needs of unit staff to ensure they have the resources and tools available to meet patient and family needs.
  • Take appropriate action to address customer concerns and complaints.
  • Identify, initiate, and collaborate to provide needed educational programs.
  • Develop management/leadership-focused in-service and disseminate information.
  • Ensure compliance with educational requirements and complete performance reviews.
  • Incorporate the Synergy model for care in nurse/patient assignments.
Requirements
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Two years of experience as an RN with a minimum of two years of experience in the area of concentration.
  • Valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.
  • Certification preferred.
  • BLS required and ACLS may be required in designated departments.
