The Senior Vice Chancellor for Parent and Family Development plays a pivotal role in fostering relationships with prospective donors and enhancing financial contributions within the Pepperdine University parent and family community. This position primarily targets major and principal gift contributors capable of donating between $25,000 and $5 million. The Vice Chancellor will actively engage with current parents of Pepperdine University, nurturing connections that inspire generosity while coordinating the involvement of various stakeholders, including administrators, faculty, alumni, and volunteers. The effectiveness of our mission to empower lives through purpose, service, and leadership is significantly reliant on robust financial backing from donors, which enables us to offer essential facilities, programs, faculty, and opportunities for our students.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, solicit, and manage a portfolio of major and principal gift donors and prospects, focusing on those with the capacity to contribute between $25,000 and $5 million annually. This role necessitates regular travel to engage and solicit major gift prospects, ensuring that both activity and pipeline objectives are achieved.
- Maintain a prioritized list of top parent prospects and create a tailored development strategy for each key prospect, emphasizing the importance of high-potential contributors while also identifying and qualifying additional prospects.
- Lead the rollout of Pepperdine's innovative parent philanthropy initiative, aimed at strategically engaging parent and family donors and prospects.
- Support the establishment and growth of the Parent and Family Council, along with volunteer opportunities and communications, to maximize engagement and philanthropic efforts within Pepperdine's parent community, both on-campus and in surrounding regions.
- Collaborate with the Planned Giving Office and the Research, Grants, and Foundation Relations team to identify, solicit, and manage planned gifts and grants.
- Work alongside senior leadership and relevant central staff to cultivate a comprehensive network of university-wide parent prospects for major gifts that align with institutional priorities.
- Utilize Pepperdine's advancement database, The Raiser's Edge, to investigate historical records and communications with donors and prospects, while documenting new actions and proposals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, upholding the mission of the University through all work performed.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's Degree; a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in fundraising, sales, or a related field; exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines and fundraising targets; proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse individuals; outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; ability to work independently with minimal supervision, engage with the public professionally, and communicate clearly and accurately; capability to articulate the Pepperdine mission and integrate it into daily responsibilities; proficiency in personal computers and relevant software.
Preferred: Over 10 years of demonstrated success in fundraising at a major and/or principal gift level, preferably within higher education or another nonprofit sector. Experience working with parents and boards is advantageous.
Qualified candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and possess the ability to work effectively with individuals from various backgrounds.
This is a Regular, Exempt position requiring 40 hours per week.
Expected Pay Range: $161,500 - $190,000 annually.
