Job Title: Research Scientist

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Scientist to join our team at the University of Utah. The successful candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology and a proven track record of conducting independent research projects.

Job Summary

The Research Scientist will be responsible for developing and managing independent scientific research projects, researching and staying current with project-related scientific literature, and setting up new methods or assays to accomplish scientific objectives. The successful candidate will also be responsible for organizing, interpreting data, and deriving study conclusions, as well as managing and training research staff to achieve research goals.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and manages independent scientific research projects.
  • Researches and stays current with project-related scientific literature.
  • Sets up new methods or assays to accomplish scientific objectives.
  • Organizes, interprets data, and derives study conclusions.
  • Manages and trains research staff to achieve research goals.
  • Collaborates with internal and external investigators on multiple research projects ensuring scientific significance and feasibility.
  • Supervises the care of research animals; performs minor animal surgery or collects animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data, and prepares reports summarizing research results.
  • Operates complex and highly specialized laboratory instruments and equipment, including microscopes, centrifuges, plate readers, sequencing platforms, PCR machines, etc.
  • Assists with grant preparation by researching background, significance, and planning statistics.
Requirements

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other scientific discipline in a related field, plus four years of experience or equivalency. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
