Job Title: Registered Nurse, Nights

A pediatric center with a long legacy of servicing medically complex children with multiple physical and neurological conditions has an immediate need for a Registered Nurse.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care, work collaboratively with the healthcare team, and contribute to the development of a positive and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, and evaluate patient care.
  • Perform treatments and special care as required, including tracheotomy care, central venous lines, oxygen administration, cast care, and dressing changes.
  • Administer medication and immunizations as ordered.
  • Confer with physicians and other healthcare team members regarding patient care management.
  • Assist physicians in performing physical examinations and treatments.
  • Evaluate the effects of prescribed treatment, including orthotics, and report to appropriate disciplines.
  • Observe, report, and record abnormal vital signs, seizures, and other clinically significant data.
  • Implement the plan of care outlined in the resident's Interdisciplinary Care Plan, including positioning, play, feeding techniques, and behavior modification plans.
  • Participate in completing the Minimum Data Set (MDS) and revising the care plan as the resident's condition changes.
  • Assume the role of nurse in charge of a unit for the shift as assigned.
  • Educate residents and families regarding their treatment plan.
  • Document interventions and teaching outcomes accurately and timely.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic resident care environment.
  • Direct and supervise Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), unit clerks, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and other Registered Nurses when in charge.
  • Establish effective working relationships with staff, residents, and family members.
  • Ensure that the center and the Department of Nursing policies and procedures are followed in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Review medication administration records for completeness at the end of the shift.
  • Give and receive the nursing report and follow through on any special instructions.
  • When in charge, make periodic checks to ensure that prescribed treatments are being properly administered by LPNs and CNAs and to evaluate the resident's physical and emotional status.
  • Participate in the orientation of new staff, residents, and families to the unit.
  • Carry out restorative and rehabilitative programs, including teaching residents to wash, feed, and dress themselves as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the facility policy on the use of restraints is followed and that documentation is timely and accurate.
  • Ensure that the unit is kept clean, free from clutter, and that the supply room door is kept locked; request the supervisor's intervention as necessary to achieve this.
  • Follow infection control standards and ensure that assigned personnel do likewise.
  • Keep abreast of new nursing policies and procedures.
  • Keep nurses' notes, plans of care, and all other documentation pertaining to assigned residents timely, accurate, and complete.
  • Carry out end-of-shift responsibilities, including ensuring that supplies are available for the next shift, the unit is clean and tidy, and all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Perform other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by the supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited RN program.
  • NYS RN License.
  • NYS RN Registration Certificate.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in nursing preferred.
  • Current BCLS certification.
Experience:
  • One (1) year of clinical experience in a pediatric and/or adolescent chronic/rehabilitative care facility.
