Job Summary

This position is for a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic at the 165th Logistics Readiness Squadron in Garden City, Georgia.

Responsibilities
  • Repair, adjust, overhaul, and perform major repairs on military and commercial designed heavy mobile equipment and special purpose vehicles.
  • Inspect repairs, overhaul, and test major systems, including gasoline, diesel, electric, and hybrid engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Analyze malfunctions and determine the cause of mechanical failure using visual and auditory checks, computer-controlled test equipment, and diagnostic tools.
  • Use specialized diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot problems in complex electric and electronic systems and identify and replace defective components.
  • Develop or improvise methods to repair equipment, modify parts, and make adjustments to meet special requirements.
  • Perform body repair and corrosion control, refinish and repaint surfaces as required, and repair and/or replace body parts, locks, glass, and other components.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit maintenance work orders for man-hour and data collection accounting, and assist in establishing and maintaining adequate shop stock and special levels parts.
  • Inspect, maintain, and operate all appropriate shop equipment, and research and assist in requisitioning materials, parts, and equipment necessary to perform the vehicle maintenance/management mission.
  • Provide expert support to the Customer Service Center and participate as an OJT Instructor in the vehicle maintenance area, conducting instructional classes on methods and procedures of operation and maintenance.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of instruction, documents, and maintain individual/section training and qualification records, and assist in conducting the local occupational safety and health training program.
Requirements
  • Candidate must possess at least 18 months experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and systems.
  • Experience must have provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment, independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve complex maintenance and repair problems, and testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on heavy mobile vehicles, equipment, and systems.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
