Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

At R B Machine, Inc., we are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for designing and developing manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixturing to meet production demands.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Determine job costs and prepare quotes for new and old jobs, applying knowledge of specific departmental procedures, Company policies, manufacturing processes, and fixture design.
  • Communicate with customers in a clear and timely manner to provide estimates on new and repeating manufactured components.
  • Design tooling and fixturing to meet production demands and print requirements.
  • Acquire purchased components and raw materials to have made into tooling and fixturing as necessary.
  • Interpret specifications, drawings, and industry standards, then create dated prints and process routers to meet these various requirements.
  • Create and maintain dated prints, making improvements and adjustments to these as new techniques, skills, measuring equipment, and machines are acquired.
  • Create Bill of Materials (BOM's) for sub-parts, sub-assemblies, and purchased components per customer requirements.
  • For revision changes from customers, create new dated prints, update BOM's, and change process router to new revision.
  • Establish or adjust work process and equipment to meet production schedules by using knowledge of departments, Company procedures, customer requirements, and equipment.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, suggests changes in working conditions, and use of equipment to increase efficiency of a department or a work cell.
  • Interpret company policies and safety regulations to help make improvements in the process, layout, tooling, or any other means necessary to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems, or assist workers in solving work problems, including Quality defects originating from the Production Floor. Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintain engineering records as required.
  • Attend production and Leadership Team meetings, as well as corporate communication meetings and Company training sessions.
  • Confer with others to coordinate activities of individual departments when necessary.
  • Build rapport with others and motivate workers to obtain best results.
  • Analyze drawings, solid model, sketches, and design data of parts to determine configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates, according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities.
  • Determine reference points and direction of machine cutting paths. Compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, then outline sequence of tool cuts required to machine part.
  • Write Setup Sheets to show alignment of geometry from CNC program to physical workpiece inside machine workspace.
  • Write Tool Lists that match CNC program geometries to the proper tools within those programs. Tool Lists to include any unique information to set the tools such as flute length, custom grinds, etc.
  • Write program of machine instructions in -G- Code, Conversational, or other machine language to control movement of machine along cutting path. Revise program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions. Observe operation of machine on trial run to prove programmed instructions and verify cycle times are accurate with quoted times.
  • Communicate with machine operators, setup personnel, other engineering personnel, Shop supervisor to receive instructions, coordinate activities and resolve issues.
  • Work independently, but as part of a team, with minimal oversight.
  • Attend work in person, on time, on a regular and reliable basis.
  • Complete all tasks in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. Be detail oriented.
  • Follow all company policies. Ask questions to clarify if needs more information.
  • Follow all safety protocols, help others follow all safety protocols and alert upper management to any safety risks that are discovered.
  • Focus on continuous improvement in all projects and in every initiative undertaken by the Manufacturing Engineering Dept.
Requirements:
  • Training and Experience: B.S. in Engineering preferred, experience in manufacturing is a plus but not required. Machined part quoting is beneficial.
  • Computer Skills: Ability to enter and retrieve data from computer using company ERP system, Microsoft Office, and CAD software such as SolidWorks, etc. Prior use of CAM software is beneficial.
  • Reading and Comprehension: Ability to interpret and understand instructions in written, oral, diagram, charts, graphs, or schedule form, safety rules, drawings, set up sheets, process sheets and other documents. Ability to write routine reports.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Good working knowledge of shop math including trig and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited information exists.
  • Physical Demands: The employee is required to:
  • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
  • exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to read or otherwise obtain information from blueprints, computer screens, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Communication: Ability to understand and be understood in communications with others. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, workers, and management in both written and oral form.
  • Working Conditions: the employee is subject to:

  • physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
  • breathing fumes, dust and mist
  • skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid
