POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Doctorate in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Immunology, or a closely related biological discipline.
  2. Extensive research experience in cell biology, gene therapy, structural biology, or immunology.
  3. Required admission to the USPTO or bar, with post-doctoral experience preferred.
  4. Familiarity with the life sciences sector.
  5. A strategic mindset and enthusiasm for the advancement of cancer treatments and vaccines.
  6. Preferred experience in IP litigation or judicial clerkship for associates.
  7. Experience in patent drafting and searching at a law firm for agents.
  8. Proven ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences, including both scientific and non-scientific stakeholders.
  9. Strong scientific writing skills, including the ability to analyze and articulate abstract scientific concepts, synthesize extensive scientific literature into concise descriptions, and distinguish key differences among related scientific innovations.
  10. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain meticulous attention to detail.
  11. Proficient in collaborative teamwork and effective communication.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Evaluate scientific literature, patents, and patent applications across various biological fields, including cell biology, cancer biology, immunology, genetics, and molecular biology. Provide critical insights on scientific data related to inventions.
  2. Conduct thorough searches for relevant scientific articles, patents, and patent applications.
  3. Perform detailed analyses comparing inventions with existing technologies.
  4. Identify and articulate essential elements and features of inventions.
  5. Draft patent applications that include a comprehensive overview of the invention's field, a detailed description of its critical features, and a clear set of claims defining the invention; also conduct inventorship analysis.
  6. Prepare responses to patent application rejections from the United States Patent and Trademark Office and other global patent offices, including a detailed analysis of cited references and persuasive arguments for patent approval.
  7. Conduct freedom-to-operate and patentability assessments on prior art and patent documents; prepare and review information disclosure statements for submission to the USPTO and international jurisdictions.
  8. Collaborate with colleagues on various projects, adapting to different team dynamics, and presenting ideas and conclusions clearly; provide constructive feedback on colleagues' proposals.
  9. Engage with clients throughout the patent application process, asking pertinent questions to clarify the unique features of inventions and responding promptly to client inquiries.
