Job Summary:

The Infection Prevention Specialist is responsible for assisting in the treatment and care of patients in the Intravenous Outpatient Department (IVOP). This role involves preparing patients for infusion therapy, maintaining equipment and supplies, performing phlebotomy, and serving as a medical secretary for IVOP.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Treats all patients with courtesy, dignity, and respect.
  • Keeps patients informed of treatment or physician delays.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Uses proper safety practices and follows universal precautions.
  • Assists in preparing patients for infusion therapy and monitors vital signs during infusion.
  • Recognizes and reports changes observed in patients' condition or behavior.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities in the department and organization.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Able to assess and care for patients with special needs.
  • Knowledge of Patient Satisfaction Survey criteria.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant credentials through MBoN or Patient Care Tech or Phlebotomy certification.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • At least 1 year experience as a CNA, PCT, or Phlebotomist.

Patient Contact:
If applicable, must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in different age groups.

Physical Requirements:
Medium-Heavy Work - Lifting and carrying up to certain pounds while walking.

Ergonomic Risk Factors:
Repetition, Forceful Exertion, Awkward Posture, Contact Stress.

Working Conditions:
Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Risk: Category A - WILL have exposure to blood or body fluids.

Reporting Relationship:
Reports to Clinical Supervisor. Receives direction from the Oncology RNs.
