Job Summary

We're seeking a highly skilled Senior Plumbing Designer to join our team. As a key member of our plumbing engineering team, you'll be responsible for managing the plumbing portions of complex projects, independently evaluating and applying engineering techniques, and taking ownership of all aspects of the work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the plumbing portions of complex projects
  • Independently evaluate and apply standard and advanced engineering techniques and procedures
  • Take responsibility for all aspects of the work, including drawings and specifications, meeting schedules and budgets, and directing assigned staff
  • Meet with clients and contractors to ensure project success
  • Program, conceptualize, and design complex systems and projects
  • Develop the basic approach to working drawings
  • Interpret engineering data for designers and drafters
  • Check drawings for accuracy and completeness
  • Monitor project schedules and budgets
  • Review and summarize applicable codes and record them for inclusion in the design record
  • Establish contact with clients and contractors to ensure project continuity and integrity
  • Visit project sites as required
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines and consultants
  • Check contract documents and shop drawings, and answer requests for information
  • Prepare project status reports for review by the Project Manager and Department Director
  • Ensure the Construction Services Department is familiar with project characteristics
  • Write specifications in conjunction with the Technical Services Department

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10 years of experience in plumbing engineering
  • Computer experience using MS Office, Trane TRACE, or similar software, and manufacturer selection software
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Experience with lab gas, med gas, and DI water systems
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED
