Senior Spintronics Development Engineer

Are you passionate about advancing the boundaries of spintronics technology? We are seeking an exceptional Senior Spintronics Development Engineer to join our innovative team at Western Digital. As a key member of our research and development team, you will play a crucial role in shaping our technical strategy and driving innovation in materials and thin film stacks for spintronic devices.

About the Role

In this exciting position, you will be responsible for researching and developing cutting-edge materials and thin film stacks for spintronic devices. Your expertise will help us develop and implement innovative solutions for complex technical issues, ensuring we remain at the forefront of the industry. You will work closely with our design, characterization, and program teams to understand device requirements and define metrics for sensor stack processes, guaranteeing that our products meet performance and reliability standards.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Magnetic Sensor and Transducer Development:
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and equipment engineering counterparts on process transfer and additional tool qualifications.
  • Align with Design, Characterization, and Program teams to understand device requirements and define metrics for sensor stack processes.
  • Work closely with other module and integration leaders to develop new process building blocks.
Process Development:
  • Design recipes on process equipment.
  • Support and run development experiments on process equipment.
  • Perform, measure, and analyze DOEs to validate new processes.
  • Analyze and present results in engineering review meetings.
Metrology and Measurement Techniques:
  • Work with MFG/equipment engineering to introduce new metrology tools and measurements.
  • Transfer new metrology tools and measurements into production.
Electrical Measurements:
  • Write scripts for tool automation and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with integration and process teams to develop and fabricate new test devices for next-gen read sensors and transducers.
Data Analysis and Optimization:
  • Utilize and analyze data from databases to identify process and yield optimization opportunities.
  • Conduct aggressive experiment management and wafer tracking.
  • Perform prompt failure analysis and defect resolution.
What We're Looking For

We require a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields, and at least 10 years' experience working on magnetic materials and thin film deposition. You should possess excellent written and communication skills, as well as the ability to set and model high standards for effective interactions across groups. Self-motivation, proactivity, and the ability to effectively multi-task and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment are essential.

As a Senior Spintronics Development Engineer at Western Digital, you will enjoy a competitive salary range of $170,000 - $230,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
