Key Duties:
- Utilizes respiratory therapy methodologies to assess patients, employing various skills including pulmonary diagnostics and correlating laboratory values.
- Operates specialized ventilators across different care settings, assisting physicians as necessary.
- Administers medication treatments and therapies in accordance with physician directives and established protocols.
- Maintains and ensures the proper functioning of respiratory equipment, troubleshooting as needed.
- Educates patients on therapy goals, techniques, and self-care strategies.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient management and education.
- Adapts to diverse service areas under physician guidance, adhering to policies and performance standards.
- Exhibits strong communication skills, ensuring accurate patient handoffs and conflict resolution.
- Promotes patient safety by implementing appropriate measures and reporting safety events promptly.
- Instructs and mentors new staff and students in respiratory care practices.
- Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific patient care requirements.
Licensure and Certification:
- Must possess a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
- Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
Educational Background:
Graduate from an accredited respiratory care program with at least an associate degree.
Experience:
No prior experience is necessary.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to solve problems related to patient care and equipment use.
- Proficient in computer skills and electronic medical record systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capability to build rapport with patients and colleagues.
