Advocate Aurora Health is currently looking for a per diem / prn Float Respiratory Therapist.

Position Overview

This role involves providing respiratory therapy services in various settings, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilizes respiratory therapy techniques to evaluate patients, employing skills in pulmonary diagnostics and correlating laboratory results.
  • Operates advanced ventilatory equipment in both critical and non-critical care environments, assisting physicians with necessary procedures.
  • Administers prescribed medication treatments and therapies in accordance with physician directives.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots respiratory equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and safety.
  • Educates patients on therapy goals, techniques, and self-care practices.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient management and care strategies.
  • Adapts to various service areas, complying with established policies and procedures while maintaining performance standards.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and conflict resolution skills, ensuring accurate patient handoffs.
  • Promotes a culture of safety by identifying potential risks and implementing corrective measures.
  • Provides mentorship and training to new staff and students.
Qualifications

Licensure and Certification:

  • Must possess a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.

Education:

Completion of an accredited respiratory care program with at least an associate degree.

Experience:

No prior experience is necessary.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and decision-making related to patient care.
  • Competent in using electronic medical record systems and communication tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to build rapport with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment for the role.
  • Must be capable of lifting and transferring patients safely.
  • Demonstrates safe body mechanics at all times.
