Description
This role is responsible for significantly influencing policies and procedures pertaining to CME Clearing's daily risk management program. This includes providing thought leadership across the company on risk management related matters, proactively anticipating future trends and implications of changing economic conditions across the globe that could impact our markets and counterparties. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal changes, coordinating with Senior Management.

The role is responsible for daily risk monitoring across the globe with a focus on market risk and methodologies. This includes overseeing a team responsible for daily, real-time monitoring of clearing member exposures, including mark-to-market, margin requirements, position changes, and potential stressed exposures. The team conducts daily portfolio analysis of risk exposures at the clearing member and large client level, including assessing potential concentration risk. The individual will be responsible for engaging clearing members in discussions regarding risk exposures, building and strengthening relationships; identifying potential counterparty default management risks; and managing crisis events such as clearing member unwinds. The team conducts on-site and virtual due diligence reviews of clearing members risk management programs.

The role is also responsible for leading the margin setting process for all CME products and customer service associated with margin inquiries across margin models, including SPAN, SPAN2 and IRS. This includes ensuring appropriate margin coverage on a daily basis, including product and portfolio levels. Lead continuous margin model enhancements and evolve margin practices. Work closely with other divisions to educate them on risk management margining practices and manage client inquiries, responding in a timely manner with the appropriate level information. Engage with regulators and external parties regarding CME Clearing's margin policies. This includes recommending industry leading practices, leveraging an in-depth understanding of CME Group's customers and business.

The role is required to engage in analysis, integration, and prioritization of multiple sources of complex/dynamic information when making decisions. The role interacts with senior level stakeholders across CME Group, Board members, regulators, and senior representatives across many counterparties.

The role is responsible for ensuring the team is performing at the needed level to successfully execute policy and achieve goals. This includes developing talent, mentoring staff, providing cross-functional collaboration opportunities, and continuously assessing risk management needs to deepen the skillset of the team.

Qualifications:

Requirements of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Masters or MBA, preferably in Finance or Economics.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work flexibly in a team environment.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in market risk management or a related field pertaining to the derivatives industry.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office or Google Work Space is required, and the ability to work with a variety of complex systems is highly desired.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Derivatives industry knowledge is a plus.
