Safety Intern

Job Description Primary PurposeTo experience Mountaire's culture first-hand and provide additional exposure of Mountaire's family-oriented work environment.
Fulfill all designated duties within each specialized area of operation for the duration of the internship. This program is intended to provide learning opportunities by working hands-on with mentors and completing assigned projects. This project involves validating current lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures as required by OSHA regulations. Currently, machine specific LOTO procedures exist for each facility. The Intern will first verify that no procedures are missing based on equipment inventory. Second, the Intern will be actively in the facility visiting the equipment to conduct a visual observation to ensure the LOTO procedure established is correct. If corrections are needed, they will propose edits that will be approved by the facility safety representative. For any equipment identified not having a LOTO written procedure, they will be required to draft a procedure for approval.
Primary Project
Work/Meet with representatives from all departments across the organization. Become familiar with equipment safety, policies and procedures. Review current LOTO procedures and inventory.
Verify LOTO procedure accuracy, recommend edits if necessary. Develop draft LOTO procedures for any that are missing. Duties/Activities Required by Job Complete the main assigned project identified Attend weekly seminar series across different Mountaire facilities All interns must be available to travel to Delaware during the last week of the program for final presentations (August 5 - 7, 2025) All interns are required to complete a 10 minute presentation on their project at the conclusion of summer. Presentations will take place in Millsboro, DE at the Administrative Building during the week of August 4-8th.
All interns must complete a mid-way evaluation (week 5) along with a final evaluation (week 10) Attend any safety and health crossover audit/reviews in the Southern RegionEducation/Experience Requirements
Ability to work in a fast paced, visit various locations (Hatchery, Feed Mill, Processing Plant, Administration) to validate LOTO procedures.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Works.
Currently obtaining an associates, bachelors, masters, or doctorate degree. (Preferably in Safety and Health, OSEH, EHS, or other compliance related program) Work in a team environment, self-motivated and accepting of challenges and detail oriented Outgoing with a positive attitude, willingness to ask questions, learn, and engage with the management, maintenance and hourly workforce Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to commute to multiple sites
