This role combines project management skills with deep process engineering knowledge to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet technical specifications.An ideal applicant will be highly skilled, consistently punctual and enjoy working with a variety of skilled individuals who share similar values and goals.General Duties/ResponsibilitiesMust work in a safe manner and comply with all health, safety, security and emergency requirements.Comply with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), and any/all established processes, whether established by their manager, by the company or by law. Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets specifically for process improvement and optimization projects.Collaborate with process Operations to design and implement new processes or modify existing ones.Coordinate with various stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and internal teams, to ensure successful project execution.Monitor project progress, including the performance of new or modified processes, and make adjustments as needed.Ensure compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.Oversee the procurement and installation of equipment and materials necessary for projects.Prepare and maintain detailed project documentation, including process flow diagrams, technical reports, and progress updates.Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for process-related projects.Perform post-project evaluations to identify lessons learned and areas for future improvement.Works with the management team to resolve any known conditions potentially affecting food safety or product quality.Communicate and coordinate with outside vendors as needed for projects and other items.Maintain proper documentation and record keeping, including data entry in computer systemAssist with forecasting capital expenditures and leading capital projects in the areas of responsibilities.Attend and participate in department and interdepartmental meetings.Spearhead management of change activities associated with projects they are leading to ensure proper cross department communication and alignment.Food Safety and Quality ResponsibilitiesFollow GMP policy when in the production facility and encourage your team to do the same.Understand our SQF policies relating to pest control, visitors, allergen management, and cleaning and sanitation.Demonstrate awareness of Management's Commitment to SQF and work towards Food Safety and Quality and help the company meet this commitment.If there is a problem that involves food quality and safety, report to the Quality Assurance Manager so that the CAPA (corrective action, preventative action) log may be filled out, the situation be investigated, and resolved with the goal of continuous improvement of food quality and safety.Required Skills/AbilitiesComfortable learning new equipment and mechanical systems and troubleshooting under pressureTrack record of developing and sustaining systems and processes that ensure quality complianceAbility to multitask and switch between projects and prioritize time autonomously.Self-directed, personally motivated with strong attention to detailAble to work in a fast-paced environmentTeam player able to work well with others and contribute to a positive work environmentResourceful, able to efficiently allocate limited resources to maximize impact and keep timelines on track.Excellent attendance and performance track record.Ability to perform all essential functions of the position.Knowledge of reliable OEM's and 3rd party contractors to leverage for key initiatives.Strong understanding of process design, optimization, and control, particularly as they apply to food and beverage production.Strong communication and teamwork abilities.Knowledge of food safety and quality standards and regulations (HACCP, SQF, and PCQI).Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Food Science, or a related field.3-5 years of experience in process engineering and project management, preferably within the food and beverage industry.Certifications in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar methodologies relevant to food and beverage production.Professional Engineer (PE) license preferredProject Management Professional (PMP) certification preferredWork Environment/Physical RequirementsProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.Must have ability to travel up to 25% or as projects require, extended site visits may be necessary during key points in projects.EEO StatementAKM provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
