Description SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for enhancing equipment reliability across production, facilities, utilities, and grounds. This role involves planning, directing, and coordinating maintenance operations, managing department expenses, budgeting, and spare parts inventory, and ensuring proper staffing and personnel development. The Maintenance Manager is also tasked with maintaining a safe and organized work environment, fostering cross-functional collaboration for operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Drive Safety Culture and Support Quality and Regulatory
Partner with Safety and Quality Assurance supporting programs to ensure safety and the production of safe, quality foods. Responsible for all maintenance work performed and completed in conformance with applicable codes, guidelines or standards established by a manufacturer or regulating body.
Ensure the equipment and company assets are always maintained to proper safety conditions all the time (no bypass allowed).
Ensure repairs and maintenance to all equipment and facilities are performed with neat workmanship.
Support Plant Performance
Develop and implement actionable and scorecard measured plans to drive and sustain improvement in the following areas:
Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and plant reliability Maintenance cost per case Training and succession for mechanics, supervisors and support staff using Job Progression Department engagement and retention
Resources capacity utilization Safety and Quality company metrics Departmental Continuous Improvement implementation
Leadership and Resources Management
Provide direction and support to the Maintenance supervisors to develop plans to increase MTBF efficiency and reliability for all the assets of responsibility.
Create a culture of root cause elimination for equipment failure at supervisor, lead and technician levels. Ensure that targeted improvement plans are in place for chronic equipment failures. Support, coach and guide production to improve operational performance.
Measure the effectiveness of the preventive maintenance program and improve it using asset repair and performance history, monitoring devices, mechanic and operator recommendations.
Ensure the maintenance supervisors direct and empower technicians to:
Perform job assignments at the expected level of completion and validation Drive preventive failure detection as the way to minimize equipment driven loss Create and implement a self-managed training and development plan
Manage and develop department budget. Develop multiyear rebuild programs for key assets for capital and cash flow planning. Negotiate scope and price for outsourced services.
Assist Purchasing and Manufacturing Engineering with new equipment specifications and related vendor issues. Determine appropriate staffing levels for department. Participate in staffing activities including interviewing and candidate selection processes. Ensure overtime and work schedules are maintained within the budget while maintaining the plant and equipment to a high standard.
Help Maintenance Supervisors in appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving issues.
Conduct periodic performance evaluations and identify performance development opportunities for direct reports.
Maintain high morale among department members, promoting cross collaboration with all functions and nurture a work environment that promotes engagement, inclusiveness and company values.
Provide ongoing coaching to direct reports and create a culture of professional growth. Ensure plant guidelines and policies are administered and supported by department supervisors and leaders. Work with and support all continuous improvement activities related to maximizing production capabilities and minimizing the cost of non-conformance. Help deliver and execute improvement projects for the plant.
Drive department communication ensuring the team is up to date in priorities, project updates and plant performance opportunities and collected learnings.
Drive a culture of accountability to comply with all safety practices, company policies and committed work plans and plant results. Skills
Knowledgeable on TPM, Predictive Maintenance Systems, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Facility Processing, Packaging Equipment and Plant Infrastructure Able to work with supervisors, mechanics, leads, stockroom, maintenance planner and total plant maintenance Knowledge of PLC's, packaging equipment, electrical, controls and trouble-shooting Able to read and interpret mechanical, electrical and process blue prints Budgeting, staffing, ERP and line balancing Enthusiastic team leader with strong "hands-on" management style, motivational skills and "lead by example" Experience developing maintenance teams through continual training, recruiting to maximize collective skills and providing a work environment conducive to bringing out the best in the maintenance and stock room teams High goals expected within mechanical uptime/reliability, regulatory compliance, plant safety and maintenance budget. Must have knowledge of OSHA and Environmental Regulations Excellent project management skills to handle multiple plant projects and overall plant maintenance Knowledge of Yields, Plant Efficiencies, Operations Procedures, SQF, USDA and HACCP procedures Ability to work with a diverse workforce Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and CMMS or equivalent platform Strong verbal and written communication skills Excellent time management skills, self-motivated and willing to learn Lean manufacturing knowledge QUALIFICATIONS:
BS with engineering degree. Strong mechanical and controls experience as a minimum. Thorough knowledge of food processing/manufacturing desired Experience: 10 years of demonstrated supervision manufacturing environment in maintenance, and or industrial process engineering.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, stretch, stoop, bend, use hands and fingers and climb stairs. This job requires the employee to be able to read, write and communicate orally in English. The employee must be able to hear and have color vision.WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in an office setting in a fast-paced manufacturing and production environment. When performing jobs on the plant production floor, work requires possible exposure to all temperature changes, high noise levels, working around moving equipment, electrical hazards, tanks, heights, fumes, chemicals, vibrations, dust, etc.
Working hours must be flexible with the ability to work on all shifts and extended hours as required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
