Sanitation SupervisorPosition Summary: This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day sanitation and overall facility cleanliness. This position directs work activities to maintain the cleanliness of the physical plant and equipment, including the building structure and process equipment, within cleaning time deadlines and sanitation guidelines.RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.Supervise Sanitation department hourly employees providing direction and coaching regarding Sanitation, Production, Safety, GMPs, and Quality Assurance.Coordinate overall Sanitation department duties with Sanitation Manager and other Sanitation Supervisors.Assist in managing the sanitation closet (chemical cage): overseeing chemical purchases, small parts & supplies inventories, and establishing control & processes for controlling inventories, overuse or waste.Directing activities of supervisory staff and team members with strong emphasis placed on employee development, performance expectations, and ensuring proper training as it relates to their job function.Maintaining positive employee relations by providing a people-oriented work environment designed to motivate employees and reduce turnover.Ensuring fast reaction & responses to sanitation calls, contamination or other issues to minimize downtime.Overseeing, reviewing, and modifying sanitation programs to improve cleaning efficiencies.Actively participating in all plant safety.Communicates Safety, Quality, and Food Safety policies to all employees. Ensures such policies are applied by all employees. Implements and monitors overall sanitation/quality performance and ensure objectives are established, documented, monitored, and reviewed. Ensure non-conformities identified in quality programs are addressed and correctedImplement, support, and maintain quality management systems, continuous improvement programs, food safety, employee safety, preventative sanitation/maintenance programs.Incorporate and support GMP s and plant cleanliness among all plant personnel.Other duties as assigned.Education and/or ExperienceBachelor s degree preferred or 5+ years of work experience may be substituted for degree.Minimum of 5-7 years
work experience supervising a large high volume food processing plant. (preferred)Demonstrated knowledge and experience in all phases of sanitation, facility upkeep, and equipment sanitation/maintenance to include: chemicals, mechanics, State and Federal sanitation requirements.Experience with continuous process improvement programs: TPM, Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, Just-in-time (JIT), Kanban, Kaisen, etc. (preferred)Flexibility/willingness to work off shifts, weekends, and a minimum of 50 hours per week.Strong knowledge of all governmental regulations concerning the operations, e.g. OSHA, FDA, HAACP, SQF, as well as good manufacturing practices and good sanitation practices for food processing facilities.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Personal computer skills include spreadsheet software and word processing software (MS Word & Excel).Proven competency in supervisory activities which require conflict management, developing subordinates, directing subordinates, managing and measuring performance, motivating, building team spirit and morale, and understanding diverse viewpoints.Ability to read, speak, and write English so as to assimilate, retain, and apply training and direction in job functions and recognize and communicate problems and recommend solutions.Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand for a prolonged time, walk, and sit. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee are exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; heat and extreme cold.
