Ace Hardware is looking for a Linux engineer who is passionate about Unix/Linux systems and has a strong desire to learn and grow in this field.  You will be part of a team that manages and supports a variety of Unix/Linux servers and applications, both on-premise and in the cloud.  You will work closely with senior engineers and gain hands-on experience with various technologies and tools.  You will also be responsible for providing on-call support as needed and performing system maintenance tasks during non-business hours. 3 days onsite, 2 days remote.

To be successful in this role, you should have the following skills and qualifications:

General Unix/Linux
  • Knowledge of Unix storage structure (disk, volume groups, logical volumes, filesystems)
  • Knowledge of Unix run levels (startup and shutdown)
  • Shell (Korn shell, Cshell, BASH)
  • Unix command line interface
  • Shell script operations and capabilities
  • Knowledge of Unix permissions, ownership, groups, etc
  • Knowledge of network configuration for Unix system (IP address, subnets, routing, gateways, etc.)
  • Knowledge of crontab and how to use it
AIX / Power systems specific
  • Knowledge of virtualization concepts
Linux / Intel systems specific
  • Python
  • Ansible (Infrastructure as code mentality)
  • Experience with any Linux distro, prefer RHEL
  • Comfortable in a command line
Soft skills
  • Willingness to learn
  • Steady progression from working directly with senior level admin to working independently
  • Good communication skills
  • Available for on-call support as needed
  • Ability to work non-standard hours to accommodate system maintenance windows
Bonus skills
  • NIM operations (mksysb, spot, LPP resources)
  • Power systems configuration (LPAR configuration, VIO server)
  • HMC operations
  • NFS
  • Red Hat Satellite or Foreman (The free, upstream version of Satellite)
  • Ansible Tower or AWX (Free, upstream version of Ansible tower)
  • LDAP/Active Directory
  • VMWare Experience

Compensation Details:

$84600 - $105900 per year
