General Job Summary:
This position is responsible for developing, coordinating and teaching courses in the wind energy and turbine technology program as defined by the College. Must evaluate and report student performance and progress in assigned courses in accordance with the College and division policies and procedures. Must have the required credentials for teaching in this field.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
1. Effectively organize, teach, and evaluate student performance and progress in assigned course offerings in accordance with established syllabi.
2. Assignments may include various delivery formats, methods, work schedules, and locations including PSEO courses. (May include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.)
3. Evaluate, report, and record student performance and progress according to College and division guidelines.
4. Maintain current course syllabi and provide student guides for all courses taught.
5. Operate and maintain the College wind turbine(s) in an educationally sound, safe, and efficient manner.
6. Coordinate and communicate regularly with all members of the Wind Energy Program, Faculty, and Administration.

1. Coordinate continuing education programming.
2. Serve as academic advisor to students and make referrals, when deemed necessary, to other College personnel, such as the Director, Dean, Counselors, Financial Aid, etc., for more specialized information and assistance.
- Attend and serve on assigned and voluntary program and College committees.
- Assist in the development of a marketing plan for the recruiting of interested students to the Criminal Justice program in cooperation with the Admissions Office.
- Assist in the development of new courses and revisions of existing courses in the Wind Energy Program area to ensure continued program growth and development.
- Maintain established office hours.
- Arrange lab sites for student practical experiences and monitor progress. Assist with the recruitment and orientation of students.
- Maintain communication with and organize required meetings of the Program Advisory Board.

1. Regularly engage in professional development activities and keep current with developing trends and ideas in profession.
2. Assist in the process of requesting and maintaining instructional equipment and supplies for classroom/laboratory use.
3. Assist the supervisor in the budgeting process.
- Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of communications within the College and community.
- Encourage and foster student participation in professional organizations, College activities and community activities.
- May be required to serve as a student club sponsor.
- Assist with monitoring, resetting and reporting on turbine condition in cooperation with maintenance contractor and other agencies as required.

1. Represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, staff and the community.
2. Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
3. Present oneself in a classroom setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies and practices.
4. Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
5. Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators and other contacts.
6. Read, understand and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communications.
7. Possess strong human relations skills and the ability to effectively relate to diverse personalities.
8. Be a creative, energetic and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills and the willingness to advance college programming in a positive manner.
9. Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.
Special Demands:
Position involves sitting or standing most of the time in an office or classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing walking, lifting, grasping, talking hearing, repetitive motions and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) climbing, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling and carrying. Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and 20 pounds of force frequently. May be required to travel between sites utilizing personal vehicle. Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance.
Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications: Successful candidate will have:
Required:
- 6,000 hours of recent, relevant experience in the field or area to be taught or completion of a state or nationally recognized examination or A.A.S., A.S., or B.S. Degree or higher
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
- Well-versed in DC & AC electrical theory including electric motors and generators
- Knowledge of rigging, signaling and basic rope access techniques
- Strong knowledge of climb, safety, rigging and rescue procedures related to working at height in the wind industry
Preferred:
- Prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level or equivalent training experience in the wind energy industry or related field
- Comprehensive understanding of industrial electrical and mechanical systems including:
- DC & AC electrical theory, including electrical motors and generators
- Industrial motor control systems, programmable logic controllers
- Understanding of power generation and distribution theory
- Understanding of gearboxes, generators and other drive line components pertaining to wind turbines
- Field experience with wind turbine maintenance, climbing, safety and balance of plant operations
- Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and other relevant industrial safety, and materiel handling standards
Salary: Commensurate with education and related experience for a 213-day contract.
