(Starting times and hours may vary depending on coverage due to report-offs and the production schedule especially during holidays.)JOB SUMMARY/ JOB DUTIES:The maintenance trainee will complete 4 EEAS class at Joliet Junior College. EEAS 101 Basic wiring and circuit design, EEAS 111 & 113 Industrial controls I & II, and EEAS 115 Electrical / electronic troubleshooting. A strong recommendation to complete EEAS 240 Motors and drives. The maintenance trainee will work closely with the shop mechanics to gain the plant specific skill sets to work independently and progress to an Apprentice Mechanic to perform facility and plant equipment repairs, conduct daily inspections and root cause investigation of failures.• Must adhere to all safety programs and policies.• Maintains plant equipment by interpreting shop manuals and schematic drawings and through verbal instruction from supervision/co-workers.• Must have mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity and ability to use hand and power tools correctly and safely.• Must be able to operate shop equipment such as welders, lathes, grinders, and mills safely and accurately.• Ability to retain and recall detailed technical information.• Performs precise measurements and tests.• Must be able to interpret ladder logic and basic control circuits.• Works with minimum supervision.• Works in temperature extremes and high places, climbing ladder, scissor lifts, WAV lifts.• On occasion, works in flour/ingredient dust.• Must communicate accurately with co-workers and team members from other departments.• Submits daily document reports.• Answer breakdown repair calls, reporting to all departments as a service technician.• Operates a life truck and must pass licensing requirements.• Basic computer knowledge to provide reports and/or data and documentation in various programs including Microsoft Office, SAP, and E-mail• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to ensure open and clear communication between team members, departments and/or customers• Follow company policies and programs including but not limited to Safety, HAACP, GMP, SQF• Other Duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may need to direct contractors on larger installations as required. COMPETENCIES:
• Successfully complete the required EEAS classes from JJC.• Develop the skill set to use electrical diagnostic equipment such as multimeters.• Develop the skill set to read and comprehend to read, interpret, and modify electrical prints and schematics and document all self-created changes.• Develop the skill set of explosion proof and intrinsically safe work environments. Knowledge of applicable NEC and NFPA codes.• Develop the understanding of industrial electrical systems, including DC voltage and AC voltage up to 600V.• Develop the skill set of relay and discrete device control systems.• Develop the skill set to of electrical installations with conduit and wiring practices.• Gain experience using sensing and control devices.• Gain Experience using both DC and AC motors, VF Drives and Servo Controlled Systems (Allen Bradley preferred).• Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions and have the ability to write simple correspondence and memoranda. • Must be able to communicate with respect, to all levels of employees.• Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to read a ruler and tape measure using Metric and English units of measure. • Must have the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is expected to comply with all safety regulations, support plant safety initiatives, proper operating procedures and utilize prescribed safety equipment such as safety eyeglasses, safety shields, gloves, earplugs, respirators, and approved footwear.Ability to deal with a changing work environment and high-pressure situations. Must be able to work in a team environment.This position may require overtime as deemed necessary to support operations activities.Position is contingent on passing Powered Industrial Equipment physical and success completion of licensing requirements.There will be a 90-day evaluation period to ensure satisfactory performance.Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training.
