As a CORE and Performance Mobile Engineer, you will be an essential member of the Native App Core team. You will contribute to the integration, implementation, and customization of Sentry, our primary performance monitoring tool, and the improvement of our app's architecture and boot time. You will be the driver in collaborating with our cross-functional teams to improve performance across our mobile app, which will help ensure that our mobile apps are at their best and that our users have the best experience on the market. This team is driven and focused, always looking for ways to set a new high bar, improve operations, and add new, talented people who are encouraging and insightful.

This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on site at a Best Buy location and some days virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process. For this role, you must be located within a drivable distance to our office in Richfield, Minnesota.

What you’ll do
  • Sentry Integration and Management: Lead the integration, implementation, and feature customization of Sentry, acting as the sole expert on this performance monitoring tool within the company
  • Performance Support and Collaboration: Provide guidance and support to feature teams across the company, sharing your expertise in mobile performance to improve their mobile solutions
  • App Architecture and Boot Time Optimization: Contribute to the Core team's efforts to enhance the overall architecture of our mobile app, with a focus on optimizing boot time to ensure a seamless user experience
  • Modernization: Work on mobile app upgrades to improve app stability and performance
  • Tool Utilization: Leverage your knowledge of Xcode, Android Studio, Visual Studio and Charles Proxy, to debug, analyze, and enhance mobile application performance
Basic qualifications
  • 2 years of experience in mobile application development
  • 2 years of experience with React Native
  • 1 year of experience working with Sentry or similar open-source software platforms (e.g., New Relic, Dynatrace, Crashlytics, BugSnag), covering integration, implementation, and feature customization
  • 2 years of experience with iOS or Android development
  • 2 years of experience with iOS development tools, such as Xcode, as well as Android Studio or Visual Studio

Preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 3 or more years of experience in mobile application development
  • Experience with Charles Proxy
  • Experience working in a retail technology environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
