The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the Gastroenterology Procedure Unit is responsible for patient triage and chart reviews, conducting comprehensive patient interviews, and collaborating with clinical staff to ensure quality care during non-sterile procedures. This role supports both ambulatory and inpatient services, specifically focusing on endoscopic and colonoscopic procedures, among others. Candidates must possess a relevant master's degree, appropriate licensure, and significant acute care experience, with additional benefits offered by Boston Children’s Hospital for qualified applicants.
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be responsible for:
- Providing patient triage/chart review to facilitate needed procedures and clinical supports for patients and families with medical needs ranging from acute to chronic.
- Conducting patient/family interviews and documenting patient histories, psychosocial histories, health status, and medical problems or potential problems.
- Working collaboratively with clinical anesthesia staff, GPU nursing and multiple referring BCH specialty providers.
- Communicating necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of anesthesia to patients and families
- The GPU is a procedural unit running 5 days a week for both ambulatory and inpatients. The GPU performs a wide range of non-sterile procedures: examples include; therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopic and colonoscopic procedures, PICC line placements, IUD placements, LPs, Sedated ABR testing, etc.
- A Master of Science in Nursing and certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner or Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
- MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse of a Physician Assistant
- 3 years of RN/NP/PA acute (hospital) experience required.
- Perioperative experience preferred.
- Pediatric experience preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills.
