POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The incumbent assumes regional responsibility for implementing, monitoring, and championing the company's Hearts and Minds safety program, both internally and externally, in order to create a workplace that is safe for our employees, partners and customers.

Base salary range of $125K - $190K

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Communicates a clear and consistent strategic enterprise vision and strategy for safety across their respective region that aligns with the Company's business goals and strategic objectives.
  • Ensures the Company's safety strategy is translated into regional branch operational action plans.
  • Champions a Hearts & Minds culture across the region, leading by example and creating scalable processes.
  • Responsible for leading regional implementation, accountability and compliance of all enterprise-wide programs, policies, training initiatives and other strategic objectives designed to advance the Company's safety culture and foster the environment of continuous improvement.
  • Engages employees at all levels proactively in safety, ensuring responsibilities, policies, practices and cultural expectations are clear.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports related to environmental performance, safety incidents, regulatory compliance, and corrective actions.
  • Implements proactive measures to mitigate risks and prevent incidents through engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment.
  • Creates proactive emergency management plans based upon top risks in the region.
  • Engages with internal and external stakeholders to communicate EHS goals, initiatives, and performance.
  • Leverages employee feedback to create a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Leads local safety committee meetings, including proactive agenda topics, cadence and engagement.
  • Drives regional compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations.
  • Develops and manages regional dashboards for all safety related KPI's in alignment with company specific benchmarks.
  • Represents the company on a regional level in dealings with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and other external and internal stakeholders.
  • Owns regional safety budgets, plans and reporting.
  • Owns regional safety regulatory and compliance reporting.
  • Recruits, trains and develops regional safety team professionals as required.
  • Maintains regional relationships with respective safety & EHS counterparts at key customers.
  • Proactively leads the regional safety team in response to industry trends, best practices and innovations.
  • Drives proactive incident response action plans with an emphasis on immediate mitigation and intelligent case management.
  • Drives a proactive regional approach to potential safety and environmental hazards, risks and emerging threats facing the business.
  • Collaborates with Regional Management & Branch Leadership to optimize and improve all aspects of safety management within the region.
  • Recommends, implements, and manages effective regional change and resistance through the creation and deployment of specific change management plans created in partnership with branch leadership.
  • Maintains an industry presence, fosters peer to peer relationships with regional and local customers, vendors, and valued partners to support EHS objectives.
  • Integrates new acquisitions into their respective regions as required.
  • Ownership of local branch units vehicle fleet management, including safe vehicle conditions.
  • Conducts and trains on thorough near miss and incident investigations within local business units.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This position operates 50% of the time in a professional office environment, and routinely utilizes standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and printers.
  • The other 50% is spent performing work tasks at local job sites and warehouses, during which the incumbent will likely utilize tools (ladders, aerial/scissor lifts, confined space multi-gas meters, etc.), and be intermittently exposed to the conditions and/or hazards typically associated with a construction site.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • In performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, perform repetitive motion, and possess an appropriate degree of both visual acuity and manual dexterity.
  • You may occasionally be required to climb, crouch, kneel, stoop, feel, and grasp.
  • This is considered a medium work position, which means possible exertion of up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to thirty (30) pounds of force frequently, and/or up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
TRAVEL:
  • This position may require up to 60% travel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5 years of experience of progressive relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a dedicated safety role.
  • Prior work experience in a highly safety sensitive environment, such as construction.
  • Experience navigating a decentralized, matrix environment.
  • Strong record of building a proactive, integrated safety culture.
  • Desire and ability to connect at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Robust understanding of EHS compliance.
  • Practical experience translating safety into the day-to-day experiences of individuals across the organization.
  • Experience leading root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Skilled at translating key concepts such as hazard identification and safety risk management into repeatable processes.
  • Demonstrated experience developing partnerships and influencing behavior and culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Capacity to adapt to changing priorities, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and excel in a complex environment.
  • Proactively stays abreast of changing industry trends and best practices, translating this intel into business strategy.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a driving record compliant with the Company's policies and MVR requirements, and consent to ongoing driving record monitoring by the Company.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior people leadership experience, either directly or indirectly.
  • Leadership presence with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills at all levels.
  • Experience in identifying, defining, and actualizing organization-wide objectives in a practical, measurable way with defined results required.
  • Qualified for Fall Protection, Confined Space, and Trench & Excavation.
  • OSHA 500 Construction/501 Trainer Certification.
  • Experience with a general or controlling contractor.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED Trainer.
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Certification.
