F&V is an employee-owned and highly successful, growth-oriented civil and environmental engineering/architectural firm that provides a wide range of services to municipal, industrial, institutional, commercial, and private development clients throughout Michigan and Indiana. We are currently looking for a Survey Project Assistant to join our Survey group on a full-time basis. This opportunity will be in person based out of our Grand Rapids, MI office.

The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to engage in both office and field work. They should be comfortable handling administrative tasks as well as participating in hands-on field assignments such assisting with construction staking and drone and safety observation. This dual role will contribute to the overall efficiency and success of the Survey group.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for field staff to assist with survey project documentation and adherence to standards.
  • General office and administrative duties (travel arrangements, expense reporting, scanning, meeting set-up, committee assistance, etc.).
  • Assist with field work by performing tasks such as field topographies, construction staking, structure reports, boundary surveys, and inspections.
  • Ensure survey vehicles are properly equipped.  
  • Assist with data calculations, quality control descriptions with the Project Manager, and quality control of drawings for typos.
  • Perform basic CAD drafting and data entry for GIS.
  • Develop and improve processes related to survey project management.
  • Manage training database, monitor certification expiration dates, and schedule and coordinate certification renewals for department staff.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office and other software programs to prepare spreadsheets, perform word processing, maintain databases, and manage project documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation of PSA and proposal letters.
  • Answer and respond to telephone and email inquiries regarding survey services and gather information for surveying estimates. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of administrative experience required.
  • Self-motivated team player.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong administration, organization, project, and time management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to be in the field and perform survey work as needed. 
  • Must have a valid Michigan driver's license.
