Central Oregon Pediatric Associates (COPA) of Bend, Oregon, the largest pediatric practice in the region, is hiring a Part-Time Acute Care Pediatrician Evening/Weekends in Redmond, OR.

At COPA Pediatricians are leaders of the COPA Medical Home care team and are responsible for directing patient care within the scope of primary care medicine using best practices as described by the American Academy of Pediatrics, and in alignment with COPA medical policies and procedures. The COPA Pediatrician provides the highest level of care to kids in our region through their dedicated teamwork, medical expertise, communication skills, and passion for helping kids to be their happiest, healthiest self. COPA pediatricians help address the health of the region through targeted quality improvement projects, ensuring that healthy outcomes are achievable for each patient, inclusive of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures, national origin, religious beliefs, or disability status. Specifically, the pediatrician examines, diagnoses, and treats acute and chronic medical conditions in a primary care setting; develops treatment plans and manages patient health issues in accordance with established clinic protocols; uses current evidence-based guidelines in creating diagnostic and treatment plans; provides compassionate care which addresses social determinants of health; maintains accurate electronic health records of patients and completes documentation in timely manner. Additionally, this role would have a focus on acute care in the primary care setting with the intention of bringing and maintaining pediatric acute care skillsets.

This position will see patients in COPA's Bend and Redmond clinics. In addition to day time shifts, this provider will also provide evening/weekend coverage and attend meetings in COPA’s Bend clinics as directed by COPA’s CMO. This position is benefits eligible with salaried exempt status.

The role of the Pediatrician will include but is not limited to the following duties:

Maintains an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, standards, and techniques and demonstrates knowledge in accordance with COPA policies and procedures within pertinent laws and regulations in the following areas:
  • Works with the COPA care team to consistently and equitably provide the highest level of pediatric primary care and acute care to all our patients, inclusive of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures, national origin, religious beliefs, or disability status.
  • Works in combination with the rest of the COPA care team to provide full-spectrum pediatric panel management, including well-child care, acute care, chronic disease management, immunizations, screening and follow up, and risk assessment and proactive management, along with yearly pediatric quality metrics.
  • Interacts with diverse families of varied backgrounds in a manner that is welcoming to all, with warm, engaging bedside manner during patient and parent interactions.
  • Skilled history taking from families and patients’ birth through teen years with ability to adapt and engage as the patient grows.
  • Performs indicated physical exam appropriate to patient’s age to facilitate appropriate work up, diagnosis, and management of the patient.
  • Uses best practice guidelines to screen, monitor, and track physical, developmental, and behavioral health milestones, with appropriate interventions and follow-up.
  • Reaches an informed diagnosis of a patient based on scientific knowledge and individual medical history, after thoroughly assessing the child and asking relevant questions. Uses resources and supervising physician appropriately for any questions.
  • Prescribes medications as appropriate and give detailed instructions for administration in accordance with state law and practice guidelines.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate lab tests relevant to the patient’s presentation to determine management. Communicates results and follow-up plan clearly with family/patient.
  • Follows up with patients and caregivers as necessary after examination to monitor the child’s progress and compliance with treatment recommendations.
  • Advises, educates, and counsels patients and their caregivers on pediatric anticipatory guidance topics following American Academy of Pediatrics’ guidelines including nutrition, diet, fitness, safety, sleep, disease preventive measures, etc.
  • Along with team of Care Coordinators and Community Health Workers, recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, documenting clearly and concisely.
  • Works with the pool of APPs and MDs to rotate covering evening and weekend access for patients.
  • Primary location of shifts in the Redmond location, but with rotation through the East Bend clinic as needed for patient access.
  • Keeps abreast of advancements and learnings in pediatric medicine and best practices through continuing education, specifically including pediatric urgent care skill sets.
  • Collaborate and consult with specialists and other staff in developing care management strategies and plans for pediatric patients.
  • Provide educational updates to clinical teams around acute care topics and work with CMO to update urgent care clinical practice guidelines.
  • Provide comprehensive pediatric acute care, including IV fluid administration, casting, suturing, and nebulized medication administration.

Qualifications

Education and Certification:
  • Successful completion of an accredited Pediatric or Emergency Medicine Residency Program.
  • Unrestricted MD licensure in the state of Oregon by the start date.
  • Unrestricted Federal DEA number registered in Oregon.
  • Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs.
  • NRP and PALS certification (COPA can facilitate these certifications for anyone who does not yet have them).
Experience:
  • 2+ years of clinical experience in a pediatric primary care or pediatric specialty required.
  • 2+ years of pediatric urgent care or emergency care preferred.
  • Epic EMR experience preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus.
Physical Requirements:
  • Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level in person, over the telephone or through use of other required technology. Sitting or standing for long periods of time. Frequent repetitive motion includes computer keyboard use, reaching with hands and arms, and walking. Occasional lifting and or moving up to 30 pounds and on rare occasion up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include viewing computer monitor for long periods of time, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work inside in a general medical office setting with ergonomically configured equipment.
  • The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to mechanical parts and chemicals including odors. The employee has been identified as having the likelihood of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials, therefore are included in the OSHA Exposure Control Plan with specification for preventing contact with the above materials.
  • Travel between COPA clinics and business office as required.
