Position Summary:

The Student Ambassador for the Office of Admissions and Recruitment is an essential part of the Admissions and Recruitment team, providing the student perspective in the recruitment process. Student Ambassadors connect with prospective students throughout their admissions and recruitment process, communicating through various methods, helping to coordinate events, and supporting the office through clerical work. At times, work may be virtual and project-based.

Essential functions and responsibilities:
  • Creating a hospitable environment in the Admissions office, which may include the following:
    1. Providing Campus Tours for scheduled and impromptu visitors
    2. Assisting with virtual and in-person Campus Visits for scheduled and impromptu visitors
    3. Speaking face-to-face with scheduled & impromptu campus visitors from various backgrounds, sometimes for extended periods of time;
    4. Communicating & following up via phone and email with prospective students;
    5. Providing directions to/from and around campus;
    6. Offering beverages & cleaning mugs;
    7. Keeping office space clean & presentable (i.e. hanging coats, keeping countertops clear, maintaining front desk work space, etc.)
  • Processing application materials and responding to questions from prospective students
  • Inputting data into Jenzabar and JRM as received from a variety of sources
  • Updating influencer information and contact lists
  • Preparing packages and mailings for staff & faculty for events (i.e. conferences, speaking engagements, etc.)
  • Assisting with Events (i.e. Open Houses, Call-A-Thon, virtual events, conferences, etc.)
  • Updating and Documenting Policies and Procedures as needed
  • Updating, Editing, Printing & Restocking New Materials
  • Clerical Duties
  • Office Supply Management/Inventory
  • Moving & Shredding Old Files
  • Other Projects as Assigned
Occasional functions and duties will include (but are not limited to):
  • Assisting other campus offices on occasion, including interdepartmental communications
  • Other duties as assigned.
Success factors/job competencies:

Required competencies:
  • A strong candidate will be highly motivated and a self-starter with some admissions and/or office experience and willing to seek out new tasks/projects
  • Ability to work on a team and willing to effectively communicate about schedules, ongoing projects, and the needs of the Admissions office
  • Ability to pay great attention to detail
  • Excellent copy editing and proofreading skills with the ability to catch minor written details
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, phone skills, and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to maintain focus amid routine and consistent interruptions
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer and technology skills, preferably with previous database experience
  • Ability to move and lift boxes and/or office equipment & supplies up to 25 lbs
  • Ability and willingness to work with confidential information
Preferred competencies:
  • An ideal candidate will be upbeat, friendly, enjoy being around people, be comfortable with diverse populations and able to relate to them and have a sense of humor.
  • An ideal candidate should possess high emotional intelligence, a strong work ethic, and be able to use common sense and good judgment with or without supervision.
  • An ideal candidate would have experience with Salesforce, Jenzabar, or Jenzabar Recruitment Module

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands to type or answer the phone, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, crawl, and lift/move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to have repetitive wrist hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer. Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment. The individual will regularly be required to communicate professionally in person, over the phone, and through email; and to sit, type, and stare at a computer monitor for prolonged periods.
  • Work environment: Employee occasionally may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time but work is primarily performed indoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal, but may increase to moderate noise for larger events. Occasional evening/weekend work.
