Description

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Vice President of Operations with a strong background in YMCA values and operations to lead our Community Centers and advance our mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This pivotal role calls for an accomplished leader with substantial YMCA expertise, a proven track record of managing complex operations, and a history of developing innovative programs within the YMCA framework. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and accountability, leveraging their YMCA knowledge to drive member engagement and deliver impactful initiatives that strengthen our community. As a key member of our executive team, the Vice President will oversee center leadership and drive operational excellence, aligning closely with our organization's unique goals and community impact model. While YMCA experience is highly preferred, we welcome candidates with equivalent leadership experience and a passion for our mission to apply and make a meaningful difference in our community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:
  1. Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
  2. Supervises center leadership and staff to assure sound operations. Provides leadership and direction to the centers by coaching direct reports and other executives, and by providing overall direction to the center boards and volunteers.
  3. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community. Provides a key awareness and takes immediate action when efforts are outside of our stated YMCA mission and goals.
  4. Assists in the development and implementation of plans for maintenance of and improvements to existing properties, facilities and equipment. Assists management in the planning, development and construction of all new Association facilities and the updates of existing locations.
  5. Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled. Takes action, when necessary, to ensure that the YMCA is staying on target of key financial objectives. Partners closely with the CFO to ensure that the YMCA's financial performance is in line with Association targets and goals.
  6. Works with other leaders on the Executive Team to ensure cross collaboration throughout YMCA Business lines. Builds intentional relationships with other Business line leaders to produce a culture of support, trust and a cohesive approach towards working together to achieve association goals, including the development of Executive Directors.
  7. Has the responsibilities of growing and developing cause-driven leaders through a culture of coaching, professional development plans and clear goal setting. Provides leadership to various assigned groups and teams to ensure that YMCA leaders are on a path towards meeting their career objectives.
  8. Assists executive directors with their budget process / performance and strategic plan implementation. Takes quick action to remedy concerns and pivot operations, when needed.
  9. Ensures center directors have a clear understanding and plan for the annual campaign. Provides training and leadership in these areas, as necessary.
  10. Ensures the highest levels of safety and performance for all center operations while looking to serve the whole community and meet the mission of the YMCA.
  11. Monitors key results areas and provides effective management by anticipating problems and taking early corrective action.
  12. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and viewpoints from all social and economic segments of the organization and community. A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism is expected from our staff.
  13. Adheres to all policies and procedures related to abuse risk management, while reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors. Complies with all procedures related to supervision of you and follows the YMCA's training and reporting requirements.
  14. Provides staff with ongoing training, supervision, and feedback regarding child abuse policies and procedures. Responds quickly and appropriately to reports and follows all reporting requirements. Communicates to all staff the organization's commitment to protect youth from abuse.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises assigned executive directors; regional vice presidents, and assigned association directors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the association's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; developing, coaching, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor degree in operations management, human services, business or social services, or equivalent in experience and education combined.
  • Eight or more years of progressive professional experience with managing multiple product lines and services, and multi-location operations. YMCA or non-profit experience preferred.
  • YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred; if not certified, should obtain certification within 2 years.
  • Passionate belief in the Y's cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
  • Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.
  • Experience developing effective teams which deliver organizational wide services and effective end user member services.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and viewpoints from all social and economic segments of the organization and community. A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism is expected from our staff.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
