Position Description: Dentists are Doctors who have successfully completed a program of advanced education from an accredited School of Dentistry. Dentists can be general practitioners or continue on into a residency for specialty work in fields such as orthodontics, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry. The dentist will deliver treatment to include but not limited to, care for patients involving dental health such as diagnosis and treatment, removal of tooth decay, fill cavities, repair fractured teeth and related parts of the mouth. They provide advice and instruction on taking care of the teeth and gums and on diet choices that affect oral health. Position Requirements: Education: Successful completion of a Doctorate in Dental Science program from an accredited university is required. Experience: Licenses, Certifications: Must be licensed and in good standing with the State of Alaska Board of Dentistry. Must have successfully passed the written and oral National Board Dental Examinations. Specialized Skills: Good interpersonal skills and communication and computer skills, accurate and precise attention to detail, able to work in an intense, concentrated environment. Preferred Qualifications: DS or MDM Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Diagnose and provide appropriate dental treatment to patients, including prophylactic, endodontic surgical, periodontal and cosmetic dentistry. Educate patients and parents of patients on maintaining proper oral health. Communicate with the dental staff regarding patient treatment plans. Prescribe medications as necessary. Administer anesthetics to patients. Carefully document all medications, diagnoses, treatments and consultations to the patients dental health record. Must display excellent communication skills and have a friendly and professional demeanor. Must be able to use a variety of equipment, including x-ray machines, drills, mouth mirrors, probes, forceps, brushes, and scalpels. They also use lasers, digital scanners, and other computer technologies. Competencies: DS or DMD from an accredited school, licensed to practice in the state, certified CPR, Physical Demands and Work Environment: Long hours of bending over patients Supervisory: Supervision of the work including all professional, technical and administrative dental staff. **[]{style="font-fami "}**
