Position Title: Director, Purchasing and Supply Chain Management
Location: St. Charles, MO
The Director, Purchasing and Supply Chain Management is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of procurement, category management, supply chain operations, shipping/receiving and material management. This role is responsible for providing both strategic direction and is also heavily involved in day-to-day support to ensure the efficient acquisition of materials, services, and logistics solutions. The primary objective is to secure the best value and service levels to support the company's operations and serve its customers and associates effectively.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategic plans for purchasing and supply chain management aligned with the company's goals and objectives.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and supply chain optimization.
- Oversee the sourcing process to ensure the selection of qualified suppliers that meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Manage supplier relationships and performance to ensure adherence to contractual agreements and service level expectations.
- Maintains supplier relationships, visiting suppliers' facilities to qualify them as new sources and assists in the resolution of production, design, quality and/or delivery problems.
- Implement supplier evaluation and performance measurement systems to drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee materials are available to serve operations in a timely, cost effective, and at the highest quality with excellent product support and warranty coverage.
- Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates prices, and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality and timely delivery competitiveness.
- Initiates and oversees PSM Team orders for materials, packaging, and other manufacturing supplies.
- Maintains close coordination with production management to ensure materials arrive for timely production of finished product.
- Ensures that product is shipped to customers in a timely and safe manner.
- Provide operational oversight of the procurement function, including purchase order processing, vendor management, and contract administration.
- Develop and enforce procurement policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support inventory management, production planning, and demand forecasting activities.
- Oversees maintenance of an accurate inventory with effective cycle counts and low inventory losses across physical inventory audits.
- Provide oversight to Warehouse Management including Shipping/Receiving and Materials Management teams.
- Selects and coordinates with logistics partners to optimize transportation routes, modes, and costs.
- Monitor freight rates, carrier performance, and service levels to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provide guidance and direction to commodity teams responsible for managing specific categories of goods or services, ensuring alignment with overall procurement objectives and strategies.
- Address organizational inefficiencies upstream and downstream from an organizational, purchasing, and supply chain management perspective.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience (10+ years) in procurement, inventory and/or supply chain management roles within a manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of direct leadership experience in Supply Chain Management.
- Proficient with ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must function well in a fast-paced, time-sensitive and demanding environment.
- Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to relate to people both inside and outside of the organization.
- Advanced managerial maturity and servant leadership skills.
- Ability to quickly learn about the project or product being developed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Address challenges and opportunities associated with custom manufacturing and defense work.
Preferred
- Prior work experience with aerospace and/or defense manufacturing.
- Master's degree or MBA.
- Certification in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., CSCP, CPSM).
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting, standing, and walking in office, warehouse, and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to climb in and out of trailers, scaffolding and up ladders.
- Ability to bend, lift, and position self to move about the office, as needed.
- Required use of fingers and hands to operate a computer.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close and/or color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
