The Oncology Clinical Technician provides basic nursing care under the supervision and delegation of a registered professional nurse. The Oncology Clinical Technician performs tasks for which he/she is competent, as evaluated and documented through a skills check list.

Essential Functions:

Staff may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

Under the supervision and delegation of the registered nurse and in accordance with York Hospital policies and procedures:

  • Provides care related to activities of daily living and comfort.
  • Safely transfers and ambulates patient as needed, to include 1 and 2-person assist and/or use of gait belt.
  • Obtains fingerstick blood sugars.
  • Accurately measures vital signs, pulse oximetry, and weights.
  • Collects specimens per policy and performs phlebotomy as needed.
  • Responds immediately to call lights and emergency scenarios.
  • Recognizes need and is proactive in assisting peers.
  • Conducts purposeful rounding to meet patient needs and ensure a safe environment.
  • Maintains infection control standards per policy.
  • Communicates results, observations, and changes in patient condition to nursing.
  • Assists in rooming of ambulatory patients, as well as room turnaround/disinfecting.
  • Documents care provided per policy.
  • Performs data order entry for outside orders.
  • Reorders and restocks med room, treatments bays, and exam rooms as needed.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in all communication.
  • Effectively communicates in all interactions with staff, other departments, providers, patients, and families.

Requirements:
  • Current registered Certified Nursing Assistant or Licensed Nursing Assistant in the state of Maine or approved compact state.
  • BLS within 60 days of hire and maintain while in position.
